‘Seeing possibilities, realising dreams’
‘Exceptional teaching for exceptional learners’
Willow Dene is an above average sized primary special school located in the Royal Borough of Greenwich - the only one of its kind in the borough. It caters for children with a wide range of learning difficulties, including Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and complex learning and medical needs. All our pupils have a statement of special educational needs (SEN) or an Educational Health Care plan (EHC).
Willow Dene is a member of the Compass Partnership of Schools, along with Horn Park Primary School, Deansfield Primary School, Halstow Primary School and South Rise Primary School. The partnership is unique as there are no known partnerships of this kind that link special and mainstream schools. The partnership enables us to make meaningful links between mainstream and special educational environments that enrich the provision on offer to our children across all five schools.
Willow Dene is home to an exceptionally large therapy team, including music therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and physiotherapy. This team works in a co-ordinated way and in partnership with the school to ensure all children’s needs are fully supported. These services are integral to the planning for provision and the delivery of a comprehensive service to all children and their families. The school employs a full-time Family Support Worker who ensures access to all services and benefits for our families, provides a very important ‘path finding’ service, and works particularly closely with our vulnerable families who need support through difficult and challenging times. Willow Dene has a full time nursing team which plans and oversees all medicine regimes, provides ongoing health education services and supports families with advice on a number of complex medical issues.
