Arts Week 2017!

On November 6th we held our first specialist week of the academic year, Arts Week! Our theme for Arts week this year was fireworks, and so we planned lots of exciting and engaging activities which embraced as many aspects of fireworks and bonfire night as possible.

Lots of different sessions took place run by our amazing in house teachers, who all brought exciting and appealing activities for us to enjoy across the week.

We had lots of art based sessions, with teachers coming into classrooms and leading sessions which enabled children to experiment with different art techniques and materials, including lots and lots of paint, sequins and glitter!

We ran a ‘Fabulous Firework Food’ session in which children got creative making ‘Pinwheel Pizza’s’ and ‘Crackling Marshmallow Sparklers’ as well as a Music and Movement session with our Sensory Co-Ordinator, listening to the sounds of fireworks then representing and recreating these through movement.

There were also lots of stories to be heard across Arts Week. We held a sensory story in our interactive library which explored the events of Guy Fawkes Night, a sensory story session took place in some classes exploring what happens leading up to the evening’s festivities and we also ran a CVI friendly sensory story in our multi sensory room!

Everyone had lots of fun across the week, learnt lots about the events that take place surrounding fireworks and created lots of beautiful and creative artwork too!
