Book Week at Willow Dene!

On Monday 5th March, Book Week began at Willow Dene! Our theme for Book Week this year was World of Music, Arts and Dance – WOMAD, meaning lots of activities planned had us travelling the globe, exploring a range of music and sharing our love of stories!

Lots of different sessions took place run by our amazing in house teachers, who all brought exciting and appealing activities for us to enjoy across the week.

Children travelled to a range of learning environments to experience these sessions, where they became immersed in a story which captured the essence of our WOMAD topic this term.

We ran a Bollywood dance session based around a story entitled ‘The Wish’, which told the story of a brother and sister whose wishes were to become Bollywood dancers.

Three of our teachers created a theatre performance of the book ‘Stealing the Drum’, a story about a young boy in Africa who became intoxicated by the drumming of the jungle, using puppets, instruments and song to captivate their audience.

Other stories told during Book week included a sensory story based on Austrian folk tales, a CVI story which took children around the world using UV and glow in the dark resources, and a bucket themed sensory story called ‘Rainbow Hunt’ which had a weather focus.

Everyone had lots of fun throughout the week, experiencing exciting storytelling sessions and learning lots about the places they travelled too!
